Biography
Nandini Chatterjee Singh is Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science at Ashoka University. A cognitive neuroscientist and educator, her research spans neurodiversity, literacy, music, emotion and social and emotional learning.
She holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Pune, with postdoctoral training at Ohio University and the University of California, Berkeley. At the National Brain Research Centre, she established the Speech and Language Laboratory and developed DALI (Dyslexia Assessment for Languages of India), a standardised tool for assessing dyslexia across Indian languages.
At UNESCO MGIEP, which she joined in 2017, she helped translate neuroscience into educational practice. With Anantha Duraiappah, she developed the EMC² framework, integrating empathy, mindfulness, compassion and critical inquiry. Since joining Ashoka in August 2025, she has continued research on human flourishing, music and emotion, and neurodiversity, alongside work using digital games and dialogue to cultivate and evaluate social and emotional learning across cultures.
